KURT LIEBER
Kurt Lieber has been an activist in Orange County since 1981. He started out by volunteering with Marine Forest Society an organization which was doing underwater experiments in kelp and habitat restoration projects. He then went on to assist with animal rehabilitation of sick and injured pinnipeds and birds with Friends of the Sea Lion and Pacific Wildlife Project, respectively. From 1992 on, he has volunteered and been a crewmember with Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. During his time with Sea Shepherd he worked extensively with Captain Paul Watson, the founder and president. It was through this tutelage that Kurt formed the idea to establish an organization that would address the needs of the Southern California marine ecosystem. He founded the Ocean Defenders Alliance (ODA) with the intent of removing abandoned commercial fishing gear. This "ghost" gear continues to harm and kill marine wildlife long after it is discarded on the bottom of our beautiful underwater habitat.
DR. BONNY SCHUMAKER
A lifelong naturalist and forest resident, who kind of fell into science after an emotional young adulthood playing music and studying philosophy and embracing idealistic lifestyles. Studied physics and received a Ph.D. from Caltech in theoretical astrophysics and quantum optics, having survived that only by running off to the Sierra Nevada or the Cascades every other week or so to challenge the walls and get lost in the trees. Having believed for years that I should appreciate having learned "how to think," as physicists pride themselves for, I more recently came to see the the power that comes from following one's heart, and have since become in avocation that wildlife biologist that I never became in vocation. As nature and wildlife have been my heart from the start, they have become now the real core of my energies and existence, and I find that no matter what my schedule, when it is for them, my inner smile is tireless.Statement of support for SS: Protection and preservation of Earth's oceans and ocean ecosystems has become an urgent priority, yet countries and cultures continue to destroy and wipe out species after species, the rest of the world apparently unaware or unconcerned. It should have been enough to simply note this fact and remind peoples everywhere that we are guests on this planet, and that a reverence for nature and all life is the only appropriate basis for choosing right from wrong, sustainable from destructive. But it has not been enough; it still is not enough. So there are a few groups like Sea Shepherd who see that political correctness is defeat when it comes to matters like protecting critical ecosystems, since the ecosystems are not respected by their enemies. It seems necessary that we take on their enemies, then, to the degree and for as long as it takes to protect and preserve the ecosystems. It is so close to being too late, that I find it hard to disagree with any tactic thus far used by Sea Shepherd. I have seen firsthand how the action of the Sea Shepherds are described falsely and are unfairly maligned by those they would stop, and the media and the governments have failed to respect the facts. That doesn't have to happen very many times before one decides to become extreme in one's defense of the innocent.
BOB TALBOT
Bob Talbot has been a member of the Sea Shepherd Advisory Board since 1996 and as a director will continue to contribute greatly to Sea Shepherd's efforts to document our high seas campaigns to protect marine wildlife. Talbot has joined the Sea Shepherds on the ice floes of Canada several times, most recently this spring, when he filmed devastating footage of sealers brutally killing seals. For over twenty years Talbot's whale and dolphin photographs have inspired wonder in people around the world. He has made it his life's work to foster a respect for animals and to fight to protect their habitat. Talbot's photographs have been published in magazines such as Audubon, Time, Natural History, American Photographer, National Wildlife, Outdoor Photographer, BBC Wildlife and National Geographic, as well as numerous other publications. A filmmaker as well, Talbot filmed the wildlife sequences for the Warner Bros. series of FREE WILLY feature films and Universal Pictures' FLIPPER. He directed and photographed the IMAX® RidefilmTM motion simulation system film, DOLPHINS - THE RIDE and acted as director and cinematographer for sequences in the Academy Award nominated MacGillivray Freeman IMAX® film, DOLPHINS.

PERSIA WHITE
Persia White, born October 25,1977, is an actress, singer, musician, and activist. After 9 seasons as a series regular on the hit TV comedy “Girlfriends” on the CW network, Persia is branching out into the world of film and music. In 2008, Persia completed filming “Spoken Word” opposite Ruben Blades and Kuno Becker, directed by Victor Nunez. In 2009, Persia starred in “Stand” opposite Darrin Henson and Regan Gomez.On the music front… Persia will release 2 albums this summer. One is a compilation of songs she wrote that have appeared on Girlfriends and various solo work. Some songs were collaborated with recording artist Tricky (of Massive Attack) and others with Saul Williams. The second album, titled “Problem Child,” was created with Persia’s band XEO3 and has a darker industrial influence. Persia has worked with great artists such as Gary Wallis of Pink Floyd, Dominique Miller of Sting, Jerome Dillon, former member of Nine Inch Nails, and Big Bio of Outcast. Persia has written soundtrack music for 3 independent films, as well as the season 5 and 6 finale song for “Girlfriends,” and the season premier of season 8.
Outside of music and TV, Persia starred in the made-for-TV movies “Operation Sandman” opposite Ron Perlman and “Suddenly” opposite Kirstie Alley. She has appeared in various independent films, including “Red Letters” opposite Peter Coyote and the cult horror “Blood Dolls.”
As a teenager, Persia’s extensive television experience included a series regular roll on the syndicated teen series “Breaker High” with co-star Ryan Gosling, as well as guest starring roles on “Angel,” “NYPD Blue,” “Brooklyn South,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” and many more.
Adding an important layer to this versatile performer, Persia is an animal welfare and environmental activist. Persia is an active Board member of the Humane Society of the United States, as well as a Board member of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. Persia has been a trusted spokesperson on behalf of animal welfare for over 10 years. In 2005, she was honored by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) as Humanitarian of the Year, as well as by Farm Sanctuary in 2006. Persia also managed to merge her activism into her TV character on “Girlfriends,” by making her a vegan and animal activist, leaving millions of fans globally aware of animal welfare issues. “Girlfriends” was the #1 TV show in African American homes for over 8 years, as well as a leading show for all women ages 14-42. In addition, Persia produced the award-winning documentary “Earthlings,” narrated by Joaquin Phoenix.
BEN ZUCKERMAN

Dr. Benjamin Zuckerman is a professor of Physics and Astronomy at the University of California, Los Angeles. He has co-edited six books, including "Extraterrestrials, Where Are They?" (Cambridge University Press 1995), "The Origin and Evolution of the Universe" (Jones & Bartlett 1996), and "Human Population and the Environmental Crisis" (Jones & Bartlett 1995). Dr. Zuckerman's interest in other planets has not outweighed his concerns for this one, and to that end he is a member of the Board of Directors of Californians for Population Stabilization and was on the Board of Directors of the Sierra Club 2002-2005. Dr. Zuckerman is a Guggenheim fellow, and has received the Bok Prize from Harvard University, the Helen B. Warner Prize of the American Astronomical Society, and the Muhlmann Prize of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific.
