Convergys to close Canadian call center | Business Courier

Convergys Corp. is closing a call center in Nova Scotia, Canada, eliminating 300 jobs, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reports.

The layoffs, at Convergys’ Cornwallis Park location, will take effect in March. Downtown Cincinnati-based Convergys opened the center in 2004.

Some employees are being offered the chance to move to other Convergys call centers in the Nova Scotia communities of Dartmouth and New Glasgow, Convergys said in a press release.

Convergys closed a call center on the Millbrook First Nations reserve, near Truro, Nova Scotia, earlier this year, leaving 200 people out of work. A client had pulled its business from the site, the CBC reported.

Convergys officials told Canadian media the Cornwallis closing would increase efficiencies and reduce costs, and that work performed at Cornwallis would be transitioned to other sites.

Convergys (NYSE: CVG), a provider of outsourced customer care services, employs about 65,000 in 68 customer contact centers and other facilities in the United States, Canada, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
